An 8.9 earthquake hit the east coast of Japan this afternoon. Tsunamis are reported all over the region, including a 10 meter high wave that hit Sendai.
So far our area has been unaffected. Phone and cell phone service is spotty however, so we are unable to reach friends in Sendai, Yamagata, and Tokyo, and it may be difficult to reach us.
In any case, we are OK here, if anyone is wondering.

In other news, we are in the process of moving to Yamagata. Doug will be driving with the cat on Friday the 18th, and L'Shawn and Naomi will be traveling in style and comfort on the shinkansen (bullet train) the next day.
Meanwhile, we're trying to get ready to move. This consists mostly of running around like a couple of hyperactive bees that have been chasing down sugar cubes with really strong espresso for the last week without any sleep. It is entirely possible that some of our stuff may actually have made it into some of these boxes that seem to have materialized in every corner of our tiny apartment...

Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween to our dedicated fan base.
As you know, we were in North America from August 26 to September 24. It was an awesome trip, but quite exhausting, so we have taken quite some time to get back into the swing of things. To top it off, we had a ton of pictures to sort through from the trip, and have not even made a dent in them yet. However, the good thing about so many pictures is that we'll have no problem featuring new pictures on the blog for quite some time. We put some copies of many of the photos from our trip on Picasa, so follow the link to our album, and check them out.
In other news, we've been busy settling back in. Since we got back from our trip, I had a birthday, Naomi turned nine-months-old, and Eriko from Tokyo and Estuardo from Guatemala came to visit.
We are planning a few events for this fall and winter, and will post pictures of those activities later. We're planning to do something with friends for Halloween and for Thanksgiving. Doug will have a birthday next Monday, and we'll probably go out to dinner to celebrate on that day.
So that's our news so far. Until next time, we wish you all the best.

Time flies!
To our dedicated fan base!
I have a mountain of Japanese homework, so I figured now was as good time as any to update our blog.
Life has been crazy! Doug went to Colorado for Will and Jen's wedding from June 22 to July 1. While he was there, Naomi and I stayed in Kobe. Naomi went to day care most of the time, and I took care of her in the evenings and on the weekends. Friends of ours also took care of her on Tuesday and Thursday (Thanks Saki and Trish!). All told, it was a difficult time for us all, and we are happy to be together again.
In other news, Naomi continues to get bigger and stronger. She can almost hold her bottle, and she is really close to crawling. The semester is just about over for me, and I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with Naomi and Doug.
Weather-wise, it is HOT! Doug and Naomi were nearly baked alive today on their way to the Ward Office to get one of a series of immunizations for Naomi. It was so hot that Naomi's body temperature was too high when they arrived, and they had to wait 40 minutes before she could get her shot. It was a nasty one too (the scars look like someone pressed two thimbles on her skin) Doug said she was a trooper though. She's a tough one our little Naomi. Anyway, to beat the heat, we stay in doors where there is air-conditioning if we can help it.
Well, that's our news and we will try to post messages more often, but don't hold your breath. Until next time. Stay cool!
